As the Editor of your project, I personally steward your film through the entire post-production process... straight to the broadcast; or into the theater.

Each film has its own goals for post-production. Some Directors demand that an Editor adheres to the script exactly. Some Directors thrive more in a team environment. I work very easily and comfortably under both conditions.

The first thing you'll notice is that although editing is an intense and complicated task, it won't feel so. When filmmakers are dragged too far into the technical processes, they lose track of the big picture. That won't happen with me. I have weathered enough technical nightmares and near-impossible deadlines to remove you as much as possible from all the headaches that pop up during an edit.

After weeks or even months of writing, planning and shooting your film, the edit should be the most rewarding part of the process.
You'll get exactly what you deserve - the smoothest edit possible, plain and simple.

OK so operationally, how does this work?

Every edit is different because every production company's situation is different. Contact me and we can discuss how I can cater the edit to you project.

For some well-funded productions I have given a total project quote that included rental of an Avid editing system for me to work on, as well as a small budget to employ members of my Assistant Editor team. Other projects had the footage already loaded on a laptop which I simply borrowed for the duration of the edit. A few have been on such a tremendously tight budget that the producers were only able to afford having interns cut scenes together while I supervised their work and gave direction/guidance at the end of each week. One project had a Producer that wanted to learn how to edit, so I was contracted as Story Editor and gave technical editing advice for each scene for him to cut.

No matter what "editing environment" we work out, rest assured that you'll be fully aware of your editing situation at all times. I give many progress reports and utilize FTP technology to show work-in-progress videos.

When quality, time or budget become too much for the one-man edit, it's time to call an Assistant Editor.

Hand me your smaller scenes while you concentrate on major ones. Give me problematic plot sequences where "editor's block" has set in. I can also log footage, digitize tapes and FTP you the media... you get the idea.

Most importantly, I'm able to work in a completely different city than the primary editor and can help create a "tag-team" environment.

$$$This is a FREE SERVICE I offer because it is a great way for filmmakers to get to know me.

This is truly the age of the "Do-It-Yourself" Filmmaker. Be you a producer, director or even another editor, it's never wrong to get a second opinion on a project you are currently editing. Does the story work? Are the visuals supporting the narrative? Is the editing seamless? I'll give you clear notes, as detailed as you wish.

Email me a summation of your needs. From there, I'll have you to upload the rough cut of the project you are editing via my FTP site (or mail it to me on a DVD) along with a draft of your script. One Director recently asked me to do work on just one scene she was having trouble with.

"I can get free advice from any chat room. What is better about your service?

You're right. Advice is free and everywhere, and art is the ultimate form of personal expression. But I'm not offering advice for a theater of one. I have concrete experience turning visions into coherent stories enjoyed by the masses. Chat rooms can be a good "roughshot" tool, but thorough advice is rare and often questionable.
